Conditions really couldn't be much better as we headed out in search of Smoothhound and Haddocks in the waters of West Cornwall. The water was like a mirror and the sun shining bright and hot! It was bites from the off for the 10 anglers on board and a trickle of Haddock was soon coming aboard. After a little while one of the rods was hooped over with a better fish and it was soon apparent a hard fighting smooth hound was on the end. Soon enough a few people were hooked up and the hounds were coming to the boat. These fish put up a great fight on our Fin Nor Variado Offshore 12-20lb class rods matched with Fin Nor Marquesa reels. This set up is excellent for targeting a range of species with plenty of power to fight bigger fish and these set ups are supplied on our species fishing trips, if required. The hounds came and went in packs, and in between the hook ups we found Haddocks, Whiting, a few Gurnards and the usual Dogfish. The Smoothhounds were ranging from 8 to 11lb. Liam was happy with a new PB just under 11lb. A move to a new mark proved a good idea when on the first drop one angler hooked into a beast! The rod was doubled over and taking the strain of a very lively fish! The fish was eventually beat after some powerful runs and we netted a stunning Smooothound of 19lb! A real specimen, released back to the depths after a few quick photos. A big well done to that angler! We finished the day with around 15 Smoothhound and over 50 Haddock, amongst several other species. Plenty of action, and some fresh fish for tea for many of the anglers on board!
Another great day species fishing on Lo Kie Adventures!
